Merry Christmas
We hope that you had a fabulous Thanksgiving and Christmas. Several of you have asked if we eat turkey here for the holidays.— The answer is yes—and although some like to slay their own, we prefer ours from the frozen food section of the grocery in Guatemala City. Nothing like a Butterball. Highlights from November included... Children from the Agua Viva Children’s Home came here for a weekend get-away, children from the Guatemala City dump came for a two-week English Camp, and in December we were able to help a local church host a Vacation Bible school for 200 children. While the Bible school was great fun and a blessing to the kids, I came to the realization that working with 200 kids for a week—is not only tiring but really not my gift. I am impressed with those of you who have the ability and the patience. Matt spent the week helping with sports, playing soccer, basketball etc. While I consider Matt to be fairly gifted athletically - he is really not cut out to play soccer with Guatemalans. Since being here, he has torn ligaments in his hand while playing goalie and broke a toe while attempting to dribble the ball away from a small child.
We will spend our third Christmas here in Guatemala and will miss you all this holiday. As always—we appreciate your prayers and all that you do.
We wish you the very best this Christmas season.

We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!
